The Minnesota Association for Justice (MAJ) was established in 1954 by a small group of lawyers dedicated to protecting the rights of the injured and accused. The MAJ was created to better represent the overall interests of their clients and their profession as well as to share information, trial strategies and to collectively influence legislation.
Our Mission: to protect the Constitution’s promise of justice for all.
Ensuring access to Justice
MAJ ensures access to justice by supporting policy and funding solutions which eliminate the barriers Minnesota’s consumers’ face when seeking a remedy for being wrongly harmed.
Advocating for Justice
MAJ advocates for justice by promoting and monitoring legislation to make certain that the law protects consumers and continues to hold wrongdoers accountable.
Advancing Excellence in Justice
MAJ advances excellence in justice by providing state of the art plaintiff-oriented, continuing legal education (CLE); providing products and services to support the practice of attorneys who represent Minnesotans who have been wrongly harmed; and providing legal research and support to smaller firms representing Minnesota’s consumers.
Providing a Civil Justice Community
The MAJ community of members provides plaintiff’s trial lawyers with a unique fellowship opportunity that cannot be found with any other bar association. Membership MAJ provides plaintiff’s trial lawyers opportunities to broaden their personal and professional qualifications, share knowledge and information and learn from a community of peers.
What we do is more important now than ever before because big insurance and large corporations have vast resources to influence the political process leaving few avenues for the average injured person to access justice. When corporations act irresponsibly by delaying or refusing to pay fair and just insurance claims, producing unsafe products, polluting our environment, swindling their employees, consumers and shareholders; or infringe on basic civil rights – the only place where an individual can hold them accountable is in our courts. MAJ is committed to strengthening the civil justice system so that deserving individuals can get justice, and wrongdoers are held accountable. We oppose efforts to weaken basic legal protections that stack the deck against injured consumers.
