The Minnesota Association for Justice Elects New President – Markus Yira

Markus Yira becomes 70th President of the Minnesota Association for Justice

[Brainerd, MN] – The Minnesota Association for Justice (MAJ), the leading legal association dedicated to advancing the legal profession and promoting justice, is proud to announce the election of attorney Markus Yira, of Hutchinson, MN as its new President. Yira’s term is effective August 16th, 2024.

President Yira has been an active member of MAJ for 28 years, brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and visionary leadership to his new role. As an accomplished attorney with a distinguished career representing Minnesota consumers, he has earned a reputation for defending the rule of law and opening courthouse doors for all who seek justice.

"I am honored to serve as the 70th President of the Minnesota Association for Justice and build on the incredible work of my predecessors," said Mr. Yira. "As we move forward, I am committed to advancing our mission of supporting the legal community and ensuring that justice is accessible to everyone."

MAJ’s core mission is to protect Minnesotan’s constitutional right to a trial by jury and redress for harms caused by the wrongful acts of others. According to Yira, “Our convention is a time to set a theme for MAJ’s work in the coming year. This year’s theme: “The Pursuit of Happiness” is centered on the principle that our work representing Minnesotans is for more than just the mechanics of the court process – we find joy in helping our clients recover and move forward.  I intend to use my presidency of this association to shine a spotlight on our mission to fulfill the core principle laid out by our Founders - seeking a full measure of justice for our clients. We will do this work in the halls of the Capitol and in the Courthouse.”  

Yira went to law school at William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1996.  He is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In addition to his solo law practice, Mark is a part-time Referee in the First Judicial District. Yira is an MSBA Board Certified Civil Trial Specialist and Rule 114 qualified neutral.  He is frequently selected by parties to mediate or arbitrate disputes. He is also a frequent lecturer on legal topics concerning personal injury, wrongful death, no-fault insurance, evidence, and trial practices.

Since 2004, Mr. Yira has been an Adjunct Professor at his alma mater, where he teaches Torts, Constitutional Law, and Civil Dispute Resolution.  His talent in the classroom has been applauded by Mitchell Hamline Professor Michael Steenson in the Mitchell Hamline Law Journal (Vol. 7):  "What sets him apart is the enthusiasm, intelligence, and diligence that he brings to his teaching. Adjunct Professors are the “unsung heroes" of our law school.  I don't know what we'd do without him." Steenson concluded.

Mark resides in Hutchinson, Minnesota with his wife, Dawn, and has four children and two grandchildren. In his spare time, Mark enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
