Elects New President – Stacy Deery Stennes
 

Stacy Deery Stennes becomes 67th President of the Minnesota Association for Justice

Brainerd, Minn. – Twin Cities attorney Stacy Deery Stennes was elected president of the Minnesota Association for Justice (MAJ) at the association’s annual convention on August 20, 2021 in Brainerd.

Ms. Stennes is a lead attorney at Conlin Law firm, a firm that places a special emphasis on helping clients put their lives back together after an injury or the loss of a loved one.

Stennes assumes the Presidency of MAJ at an unprecedented time. A year and a half of virtual meetings, virtual depositions and, in some cases, virtual trials, has left many wondering about the post-pandemic courtroom experience. As we slowly come out of the pandemic and in-person trial practice resumes, MAJ members and their clients look to forward to Ms. Stennes’ leadership as we navigate the new terrain.

MAJ’s core mission is to protect every Minnesotan’s constitutional right to a trial by jury, and every citizen’s right to redress for harms caused by the wrongful acts of others. According to Stennes, “The COVID 19 pandemic has shown that the civil justice system is more important now than ever before. The pandemic’s vast disparity in outcomes has shown the public—in the starkest of ways—why holding the powerful and wrongdoers accountable is so critically important.  Sometimes, the only way to achieve justice is our civil court system and it must be preserved.”  

Stennes strongly supports MAJ’s long-standing commitment to justice and equal protection for all and has pledged to continue that mission during her term as president. She intends to use her time as president to help identify and eliminate barriers that injured Minnesotans encounter when seeking justice in our court system. Stennes has been a leader in developing enhanced professional development of the association’s membership by providing diverse and cutting-edge legal education. Her work will help ensure the sustainability of the association, which has been dedicated to these goals for more than 60 years.

Stacy Deery Stennes is a skilled and dedicated trial lawyer who provides compassionate and thoughtful representation to families and individuals facing the wrongful death of a loved one or a serious injury. She has been recognized by Super Lawyers each of the last eight years.

Stennes has served in multiple roles for the Minnesota Association for Justice including leading the association’s education and finance committees.  She is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars (CLE’s) in the areas of personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, and wrongful death. She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, teaching Legal Writing and Research.

Stennes is a cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, where she was a managing editor of the Minnesota Law Review. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of St. Benedict, and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. She is licensed to practice in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
